Reporting Analyst

FIRM OVERVIEW:

This firm is a Boston-based investment manager with a long-term, value-oriented approach has an opening for a Reporting Analyst. Since founding, the firm has been thoughtfully stewarding and compounding capital on behalf of families, foundations and endowments, as well as employees who collectively are the firm’s largest client. Baupost manages with a broad and flexible charter, investing in a wide range of asset classes, including significant holdings in publicly traded debt and equity securities, private debt, real estate, and private equity.

The ideal candidate for the role should possess the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Business-related undergraduate or graduate degree with a minimum 5 years of related, transferable experience in the financial services industry

  • Proven analytical experience combined with strong data transformation and aggregation skills; must be highly fluent in MS Excel, relational databases, and power query; VBA or other coding experience a plus

  • Effective and professional communicator – both written and verbally – to all levels of an organization (i.e., equally capable conveying thematic, high-level ideas as well as detailed data to executive leaders to junior staff)

  • Ability to take high-level direction, work independently, and assume full accountability for the end-to-end workflow to produce an excellent work product:

    • Determine the optimal analytical approach to convey desired results in a concise manner

    • Perform independent research as needed and collaborate with subject matter experts and/or internal stakeholders to advance project, leveraging internal resources and technology

    • Provide proactive follow-up and recommendations on next steps

  • Effectively multi-task and prioritize various assignments in a deadline-driven environment while also maintaining a high level of attention to detail

  • Strong respect for core Firm values such as intellectual curiosity, critical thinking/problem solving, accountability, and taking pride in work product

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about continuous learning and development

  • Team oriented; understands that personal success only comes when the team succeeds; ability to mentor junior analysts

This position is a member of the Reporting team responsible for providing data analytics, reporting, and decision support tools to Firm Operations and Investment Teams.

Essential functions of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Own and execute specific recurring deliverables; examples include analyzing and reporting on key performance metrics (IRR, ROIC, etc.), investment activity, and illiquid asset capacity forecasting.

  • Execute ad hoc data analysis and reporting, often in parallel with other deliverables, to support senior management:

    • Quickly and accurately transform unstructured data into a concise analysis

    • Identify and summarize key themes, observations, and takeaways from the data

    • Proactively anticipate follow-up questions and/or next steps

  • Provide portfolio data, market analyses, and fact verifications in support of investor communications, meetings, and presentations

  • Attain a deep and thorough knowledge of the firm’s investment portfolio, as well as the internal systems and operational processes/workflows that impact the PVAR team and Operations broadly

  • Support the development and implementation of new reporting tools along with workflow enhancements to streamline and simplify data access
